Applications & Uses
Because of its low toxicity and the mildness of its basic properties, slaked lime is widely used in the food industry to:
? clarify raw juice from sugarcane or sugar beets in the sugar industry
? process water for alcoholic beverages and soft drinks
? pickle cucumbers and other foods
? make corn tortillas (it helps the corn flour bind together) fortify (Ca supplement) fruit drinks, such as orange juice, and infant formula

Storage & Handling Precautions
Storage:
Calcium Hydroxide should be kept at room temperature in dry, cool, and shaded place with original packaging. Moisture should be avoided.
Handling Precaution:
Handling of Calcium Hydroxide should only be performed by those who are well trained and familiar with chemicals. Avoid skin and eye contact and breathing in dust. Avoid handling which leads to dust formation.
