General Information

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), India's Premier Industry Association is organising the 8th edition of India's biennial event on Food Processing & Food Technology - Foodpro 2009, to be held from 29th October – 1st November 2009 at Chennai Trade Centre, Chennai, India.

The Food Processing Industry is one of the largest in terms of production, consumption, export and growth prospects. The food industry is estimated to be worth over $ 200 billion and would grow to $ 310 billion by 2015.

A lot of positive traction has happened in food industry since the release of FAIDA (Food and Agricultural Integrated Development Action) report in 1997. Emergence of organised retail as a true force; Integration of Poultry chain; Value Additions in Dairy sector; Changes in Governmental Regulations; Explosion of food products and services amongst other things. Nearly Rs.90,000 Crores of output has been added to the Food Processing Industry.

The update of FAIDA Report - "FAIDA revisited" was released at Foodpro 2003. While the two reports present(ed) strategic insights into various aspects of the growth of the food industry in India, CII - A C Nielsen ORG – MARG report was released on "India's Changing Dinner Plate" (Foods and Beverages - Challenges and Opportunities in the Indian Market), an attempt to understand how the consumers food habits have changed over the last decade.

The Industry is estimated to grow at 16%, during the 11th five-year plan period. While the industry is large in size, it is still at a nascent stage in terms of development. Of the country's total agriculture and food produce, only 2 percent is processed.

The Food sector continues to rely heavily on new technology and developments. Such developments are crucial to the food processing industry. Foodpro 2009 will focus on the current trends in food processing industry, showcase innovation through modern technology, build brand and create awareness.

Foodpro 2009 is the platform for interface between the food technology sector and the food industry. With its cross-over concept covers everything from manufacturing and processing of foods, packaging, storage and retailing with a process orientation and cross-sector approach, it meets the market requirements for the highest demands in food processing.
