Linseed oil is eaten and used in folk medicine. Fresh butter has no bitter taste and aftertaste. Rancid oil will give a bitter burning aftertaste.
The beneficial properties of linseed oil are due to the content of essential polyunsaturated fatty acids:
- 44-61% Omega-3;
- 15-30% Omega-6;
- 13-29% Omega-9.
Flax oil contains a large amount of vitamin E, folic acid and estrogen-like phytohormones (lignans).
Kinematic viscosity at 20 °C is 15.5⋅10-6 m2/sec, iodine number 175-204.
Flax phytoestrogens have an antioxidant effect, a certain antitumor activity. To preserve the medicinal properties of linseed oil, it must be stored in a tightly closed vessel in a dark, cool place.
The healing effect of linseed oil is enhanced by organic (fruit and vegetable) acids.
