Introduction

Angelica is a fragrant plant with a long ancient history of medicinal and spiritual uses.  As it's official name implies it is often associated with angels.  One story claims this is because an angel showed it as a cure for the plague and another claims it is because it blooms on the day for Archangel Micheal.  Either way, angelica is often used to purge and protect against negative influences.  Angelica is also used as a flavoring in the preparation of Vermouth and Chartreuse, which is interesting because angelica is also known to create a disgust for alcohol and is sometimes used for treating alcoholism.  Medicinally, Angelica is very similar to Dong Quai  - an important herb in Chinese medicine used as a female tonic.
