Areca Nut or Betel Nut is the seed of areca palm. This is one of the important commercial crops in India. It is also grown in Bangladesh, Japan, Sri Lanka, south China, the East Indies, the Philippines, and parts of Africa. The Areca nut may be used fresh, dried, or cured by boiling, baking, or roasting. Areca nut has Tannins arecatannin and Gallic Acid, Terpineol, Lignin, various Saline substances. It has three main Alkaloids — Arecoline, Arecaidine and Guvacine — all of which have Vasoconstricting properties. But the Areca Nuts has both pros and cons to human health and has always been suggested to be used as minimum as possible and only for the benefits for good health.
