Bean Sprouts
Our Bean sprouts consist of a mixture of Alf Alfa, Mung Beans, Lentils and peanuts. Bean sprouts are good to use in salads. We sprout all our own bean sprouts.
Alf Alfa
Alf Alfa is a cool season perennial legume. The sprouts are very fine in comparison to the other sprouts in the pack. Alf Alfa has been used in herbal medicine for the past 1500 years. Alfalfa is high in protein, calcium plus other minerals, Vitamin A, Vitamins in the B group, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E and Vitamin K. Traditional uses of Alfalfa include early Chinese physicians using the young leaves to treat disorders relating to the digestive tract and the kidneys.
Peanuts
Peanuts or groundnuts is a species in the legume family native to South America, Mexico and Central America. Peanuts are a rich source of protein, niacin, resveratrol and co-enzyme 10. Peanut protein and other legume proteins such as soy protein is the nutritional equivalent of meat and egg which is essential for human growth and health. Niacin contributes to brain health, brain circulation and blood flow. Peanuts are also a rich source of resveratrol. This is a chemical that is studied for its potential antiaging effects and also associated with reduced cardiovascular disease and reduced cancer risk. Peanuts are also a source of co-enzyme 10 along with oily fish, beef, soybeans and spinach. This helps to accelerate the growth of male and female hormones.
Lentils
A study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine confirms that eating high fiber foods, such as lentils, helps prevent heart disease. Lentils' contribution to heart health lies not just in their fiber, but in the significant amounts of foliate and magnesium they supply. Foliate helps lower levels of homocysteine, an amino acid that is an intermediate product in an important metabolic process called the methylation cycle. In addition to its beneficial effects on the digestive system and the heart, soluble fiber helps stabilize blood sugar levels. In addition to providing slow-burning complex carbohydrates, lentils are one of the best vegetable sources of iron. This makes them an important part of a vegetarian diet, and useful for preventing iron deficiency.
Mung Beans
Mung Beans originate from Asia. The Chinese have been growing mung bean sprouts for approximately 3,000 years. Farmers grow them often with little machinery. Mung beans are a good source of Vitamins A, B, C & E, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, and amino acids. Mung beans contain 20% protein and are a good source of foliate and dietary fiber.
