Maca Extract is a small herbaceous plant that grows close to the soil,with a tuberous, bushing root in the form of a turnip.

Botanical Aspects:
Root: The root is swollen and has a conic shape; it is the plants subterraneous storage organ. It can grow up to 18 cm. long and have a diameter of 6.5 cm. It is also called a hypocotyl. However, the maca root is not a tuber; it just receives this floral formulation.
Ecotypes: Different ecotypes of maca exist, according to the color of the root, which can vary from light yellow to dark red, purple or black. The most frequent ecotype is yellow; the second most frequent type is red-white.
Origin And Distribution: Maca is an Andean crop cultivated in a very limited zone of the Central
Andes Sierra in Peru (Cerro de Pasco, Junín, Tarma, Jauja, Concepción and Huancayo). This
crop was domesticated approximately 2000 years ago in a climate of low temperatures and strong winds. Due to its elevation (4000 and 5500 meters above sea level) and the rough climate, few other crops can be cultivated on this soil with sediments of limestone and dark clay.

Storage and Stability:
Store in a dry and cool place, away from sources of heat. Given the product is stored in a correct manner (hermetically closed, in a dark, fresh and cool location), it has a stability of approximately 24 months.

The maca root is an extraordinary food, an unequaled source of amino acids and it contains a complex of carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. Maca also contains an impressive collection of bio-active compounds, many of which, if not all, count for its numerous benefits such as glucosinolates, alkaloids and sterols. It has high nutritional value due to its proteins e.g. polypeptids that make 11% of the dry Maca root and 14% of all of the Maca paste. It also contains 10% calcium, and significative amounts of Magnesium and Potassium and other minerals such as iron, silicium, iodine, manganese, zinc, Sodium, Copper.
The main vitamins found in maca are thiamin, riboflavin and ascorbic acid. Its carbohydrates come from the cellulose and the lignin (polyholosids).
Maca contains amino acid proteins such as aspartic acid, glutamic acid, serine, histidine, glycine, threonine, cysteine, alanine, arginine, tyrosine, phenylalanine, valine, methionine, isoleucine and lysine.
