Brassica napus fields, the source of Canola Oil.

While Asia Trade Development is known worldwide for it's US Peanut Oil,  they are also a significant trader in Canola Oil (as well as our Soybean, Corn, and Sunflower oils). We supply Vistauxx® Brand and private label Canola worldwide.

Canola is not the same plant as rapeseed. It looks the same on the outside, and it was developed from rapeseed, but it is completely different on the inside where it counts. Canola was developed thourgh conventional plant breeding from rapeseed, an oilseed plant with roots in ancient civilization. The word rape in rapeseed comes from the Latin word rapum meaning turnip. Brussels sprouts, mustard and many other vegtables are related to the two Canola species, Brassica napus and Brassica rapa. About 40 years ago, Canadian plant scientists used traditional plant breeding methods to get rid of rapeseed's undesirable qualities: erucic acid and glucosinolates. The name Canola derives from Can adian o il, l ow a cid. As a result of this breeding, Canola oil and meal are quite different from rapeseed oil and meal (which are not fit for human consumption). Europeans and others still call canola "oilseed rape" and the oil "rape oil" or "rapeseed oil" but they mean canola, if it is for food uses.

The negative connotations with the word rape in the English speaking world resulted in the more marketing-friendly name Canola, but also to distinguish it from regular rapeseed oil, which has a much higher erucic acid content, and is not fit for human consumption..

Above to the left is a golden field of Brassica napus plants in the shadow of the Rockies. This area has the growing seaso ns, clean air, and adequate water to produce these wholesome plants. Grown elsewhere the quality suffers, and neither we nor our customers will accept this. Canola oil comes from pressed canola seed. The seed is harvested from pods (shown on the right) that are formed after those beautiful yellow flowers you've probably seen in the summer fade away.  North American farmers have been growing Canola seed for over 30 years.

Asia Trade is internationally recognized for the purity and quality of the Canola oil we produce, and is a major exporter of GMO Free (sometimes called non-GMO) Canola oil and Certified Organic Canola oil. With the growing recognition of the potential health benefits of Canola oil, Asia Trade's Canola shipments have grown substantially over the last several years. Its introduction of Canola oil into new markets has elicited the support of health practitioners and nutritionists, and even the occasional endorsement of a head of state.

Canola oil is one of the healthiest of all commonly used cooking oils. It is lowest in saturated fat, high in cholesterol-lowering mono-unsaturated fat and the best source of omega-3 fats of all popular oils.

Clinical studies confirmed that when used as part of a balanced diet, canola oil has been shown to lower blood cholesterol levels and have a beneficial effect on clot formation, thereby decreasing the risk of heart disease and stroke.  Canola oil contains just 7% saturated fat compared to, for example, 15% for olive oil, 19% from peanut oil and 12% for sunflower oil.
