DESCRIPTION:
The shell is usually rolled into tubes, 5 cm to 50 cm long, 1.5 cm to10 cm wide, 1 mm to 8 mm thick. Outer surface is brown to gray-brown, with holes and petiole (do not see in the shells which became thick). The inner surface is red brown to dark brown, smooth or slightly rough. The matter is hard and brittle, easily broken; the cracked surface is not smooth, fibrous. The Cross section has two layers: the outer layer is yellow-brown, slightly rough, the inner layer is reddish-brown, with short fiber; there is a yellowish brown ring between the two layers.
