Plant description: A bitter, astringent, warming herb. Anti-spasmodic, digestive, nervine, stimulates the uterus and estrogen production. Controls vomiting and is traditionally known as an aphrodisiac.
The common name Clary, 'clear eye', comes from the folk medicine use of the plant's mucilaginous seeds to reduce inflammation of the eye. In Germany the plant is called Muskateller Salbei. It has been used as a flavoring in Muskatel wine.
Product colour: Off-white to amber colored solid, the odor has a faintly woody characteristic, balsamic and amberlike.
Uses
Clary sage oil is calming to the nervous system, particularly in cases of depression, stress, insomnia and deep seated tension. It furthermore is a good tonic for the womb and female functions in general, such as painful periods, scanty menstruation and relaxation during labor, thus encouraging a less painful birth.
During menopause, clary sage oil can help reduce hot flushes, night sweats, palpitations, irritability, as well as headaches and dizziness.
It is good for muscle pains, digestive disorders, kidney diseases and the cooling of inflammation of the skin.
