Worker bees digest honey and pollen by mixing it with their enzymes to secrete nutritious royal jelly. While ordinary bees eat it only for the first 3 days of their lives, the queen bee gets to feed on royal jelly her entire life. With this diet, the queen grows up to 2 ½ times the size of the ordinary bee and produces 2,000 eggs daily, which can equal 2 ½ times her own body weight. She also lives up to 5 or 7 years, 45 times longer than worker bees.
