Tilapia sometime called Nile perch also as well known as aquatic chicken due to their high growth rates, is the second most important group of farmed fish after carp and the most widely grown of any farmed fish. It is farmed in at least 85 countries, with most production coming from Asia(China) and Latin America(Ecuador, Hongduras and Costa Rica).
China is, by far, the world leader in tilapia farming with an annual production close to 1 million tons and an annual growth rate of 15 percent.
