Titan oats are a tall, high yielding forage oat.
Titan oats are a tall, high yielding forage oat. This oat was especially selected for use in hay or silage production. The large seeds promote rapid establishment which leads to fast tillering early in the season. The plant has wide leaves to provide maximim forage yield. Titan oats are tall but have good stem strength and resists lodging. Crude protein can range from 10 to 20 percent. Nutritional quality is affected by soil fertility, weather and management practices.
COMPARE TITAN OATS TO OTHER SPRING FORAGE OPTIONS
The top picture shows the height difference between Titan Oats and Monida oats. The picture to the left show the difference between Titan Oats and Washford Spring Forage Barley. In both these pictures the fields were seeded at the same time with the same fertilizer and field preparation.
PLANTING
Seed 75 to 100 pounds per acre from February to May. Plant in a firm seed bed with good soil contact between 1/2 and 1 inch deep. Fertilizer requirements are similar to wheat with the exception of nitrogen, as excess nitrogen can cause lodging. Titan Oats is a proprietary variety and by terms of the seed sale agreement, unauthorized propagation for seed or breeding purposes is prohibited. This oat was bred for forage production and is an average grain yielding variety.
