There are two main varieties of grapefruit in Taiwan; Star Ruby and Ruby Red. Both have darker flesh that the common pink-yellow grapefruit and also tend to have a sweeter flavor.
Ruby Red are seedless and are the most popular variety in the Asian market. In order to be grown with the famous bright red skin, the fruits are covered with a bag during the growing season. As such, they have a bright Red Color in comparison to the pinker skin of the Ruby Star.
Both fruit are sweet and juicy and still maintain the subtle sourness grapefruits are known for. Grapefruits provide an excellent source of vitamin C, potassium and dietary fiber.
