Havarti cheese was named after the Danish experimental farm where it was developed. The cheese is often referred to as the Danish tilsit because of its similarity to that cheese. Its semi-soft and pale yellow with small irregular holes. The flavor of young Havarti is mild yet tangy. As the cheese ages, its flavor intensifies and sharpens. Havarti cheese is laced with pin-sized holes. It has a creamy color and texture and a buttery flavor. Easy to slice and melt, its an excellent choice for sandwiches and snacks.
