CO2 hops extract is prepared by the supercritical CO extraction of hops pellets in the condition of 50-55 degree, 300-350kg/cm2 . At the end of the process of extraction, CO2 is removed and the extract is obtained at 40-45 degree.
Main advantages of the CO2 hops extract over raw hops or hops pellets are:
- reduced bulkiness for storage and transportation
- less strict storage conditions
- standardization, consistency and higher utilization
Hops extract is a kind of thick Paste with dark green to golden yellow colour. It can flow at temperatures warmer than 50 degree. The extract dissolves in ethanol, most organic solvents and does not dissolve in water. It is weakly alkaline.
Main components in the hops extract are listed as follows with their contents:
Alpha-acids (mainly humulone): 30-60%
Beta-acids (mainly lupulone): 15-45%
Hops Essence oil: 3-6%
