Our greatest resource is the water of the Irish Atlantic Coast. We respect and live in harmony with this resource as it is this that makes Atlantic Fare salmon and trout superior in texture and taste.
Farmed Irish salmon differ from salmon from other origins. The increased tidal ranges found in Irish waters together with the more exposed locations which salmon farmers in Ireland operate in, results in slower growing salmon, with firmer flesh and significantly lower fat levels (typically 10-14%).
In a very short period of time, the Irish farmed salmon industry has moved forward from its humble beginnings and evolved into a major producer of quality seafood for world markets. It is estimated that circa 80,000 people (54,000 full time equivalents) are employed in salmon farming activities.
What makes salmon a healthy food choice?
Salmon are not only an excellent source of protein, but are rich in omega 3 fatty acids, which are essential for neurocognitive development and normal brain function. Diets including fish rich in omega 3 fatty acids have also been linked to heart health.
What makes Irish farmed salmon unique?
The producers work progressively and innovatively and endeavour to farm in the most ecologically responsible manner.
The salmon is raised in the Western Coast of Ireland in the most exposed marine locations.
The feed is tested to be guaranteed GMO free.
At 25-50% of conventional stocking densities, our Irish salmon is raised in a much more spacious environment. The result is a fish that has a better texture and a farm that makes a minimal environmental footprint.
