King Kong is currently recognized as assets of the Lambayeque Regionand the largest producers are grouped in the Association of Producersof King Kong and pastries in the city of Lambayeque (APROKLAM),consisting of 11 factories engaged in formal preparation of thisdelicacy. The APROKLAM has initiated the process to obtain thedesignation of origin. The 'King Kong' is one of the export products inthe Lambayeque region, the United States being the main buyer, theproduct is also exported to Japan, Canada, Costa Rica , Italy andSpain. A popular activity in the city of Chiclayo is the development oflarge samples of "King Kong", which weighs nearly a ton, to be enjoyeden masse to promote the product during the 'Festival of King Kong "thatheld each year.
History tells us that by the time of the 30s of the twentieth century,exhibited in the city's famous King Kong movie, the popular mischiefand compared the size of the gingerbread mold with the figure of thegorilla, baptizing since as the "King Kong". The King Kong is a typical sweet cuisine of Peru, a native of thenorthern area, specifically the region of Lambayeque.
