Everyautumn after Grapes harvest, on the island of Crete, the "Celebrationof Tsikoudia" takes place. Tsikoudiais a strong distilled spirit containing approximately 37% alcohol per volumeand is produced from the must-residue of the wine-press. The Cretan Tsikoudia with its strong aroma is thetraditional drink and the first product that comes from the residues of grapesleft over from the wine making. The liquid that first comes out of the funnelis used for pharmaceutical purposes and the final amount of distilled liquidcontaining the least amount of alcohol during the middle of the entire process,is producing Tsikoudia. The European Union protects the following uniquespirits as being only original when they come from its original place: Cognac, BRANDY de Jerez, Grappa di Barolo, BerlinerKümmel, Genièvre Flandres Artois, Scotch Whisky,Irish Whiskey and Tsikoudia from Crete. Tsikoudiais highly appreciated in Countries with long and cold winters. It is bottled in½, 1, 1.5, 2 litters glass bottles and in 25 litters metal containers.
