Description :
Shrub, 30-80cm high. Stem and branch cylindric, dichotomous or trichotomous, rarely polytomous, joint slightly expands, internode between branchlets 5-10cm long, with irregular wrinkles after drying. Leaf opposite, rarely 3 pieces whorled; petiole short; lamina thickly leathery or leathery, long elliptical or elliptical lanceolate, 3-7cm long, 0.7-2cm wide, tip round or round blunt, basal part gradually narrowed; basal vein 3-5; dioecious; inflorescence basidixed or axillary in stem dichotomy; male inflorescences in sympodium, periclinium boat shaped, usually with 3 flowers, flower in the middle with 2 pieces of bracts or without; male flower sepals 4; anther elliptic; female inflorescences in spiciform sympodium, with 3-5 flowers, basidixed flower with 2 pieces of bracts or without, each cross opposite flower with 1 piece of bract; female flower bud long ovoid, receptacle ovoid, sepals 4; stigma mamillary. Whole plant mainly contains flavonoid compounds: rhamnazin, rhamnzin-3-O-β-D-glucoside, isorhamnetin-3-O-β-D-glucoside, isorhamnetin-7-O-β-D-glucoside, viscumneoside I, II, III, IV, V, VI,VII, triterpenes: β-amyranol, β-acetylamyranol, β-amyrandiol, lupeol, oleanolic acid and betulic acid, etc.; and other glycosides, like syringin, glucose[syringenin-O- beta -D-apio-furanosyl 1→2 - beta -D-glucopyranoside]etc.
The mouse study, published in ACS' Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, found that a compound produced by a particular variety of the plant could help fight obesity-related Liver disease in mice. The Korean research suggests that the symbolic plant might one day represent more than a kiss at Christmas time – and could also mean better liver health and potential anti-obesity effects.
