Mung Beans...!!!
Mung bean is at the same time one of the most familiar beans in the India, and one of the least known. It is familiar to many because of its use for bean sprouts common in salad bars across the country. Yet few have seen the crop growing or know where it is produced. This warm season legume is a native of India and is still grown on a large acreage there. Often called green gram or golden gram in international publications, it is also cultivated in several countries of Asia, Africa, and South America.
Mung beans are mainly cultivated in China, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Burma, Bangladesh and India, but also in hot and dry regions of southern Europe and the southern USA. In India and Bangladesh, they are grown during two seasons. One is the Rabi season (starting November), and the other is the Kharif season (starting June). Mung beans are tropical (or sub-tropical) crops, and require warm temperatures (optimally around 30-35°C). Loamy soil is best for pusap cultivation.
