Distilling in New Zealand goes back to the earliest Scottish settlers in 1838, when the distilling industry thrived around New Zealand particularly in the Dunedin and surrounding Otago region. This continued until the 1870s, when government legislation saw many close down.
Seagrams purchased the distillery in the 1980’s but production ceased in 1997 as Seagrams rationalised their worldwide business.
The New Zealand Whisky company were fortunate enough to purchase 600 barrels of aged Malt Whiskey. This whiskey has continued to improve with age and over this time has matured into an astonishing good New Zealand Whiskey.
