From the land of the legendary tea master, Sen no Rikyu, comes this award-winning castella, 'Ogon no Tetsugaku'

Sakai City: where the renowned Jesuit missionaries St. Francisco Xavier and Luís Fróis had set foot during their historic missionary work. The original form of the Portuguese sponge cake, the castella was most likely introduced during this time of trade & cultural exchange. Pursuing our grandiose dreams & aspirations, we’ve successfully reproduced the legendary castella , which was used by the great tea master Sen no Rikyu as sweets for the tea ceremony he conducted.

Our castellas, rich with flavor, texture & a natural golden color of the eggs, are baked using the finest & purest ingredients. They will surely stir sentimental & nostalgic memories of life’s happiness & pleasures.

Located next to the ancient burial mound of the 18th Emperor of Japan, Emperor Hanzei and the historic Hochigai Shrine, is our prominent Confectionery studio, "Kokyuan." Here, our top confectioners passionately bake our award-winning castella, as well as a wide range of Japanese confectionery suitable to all seasons & occasions.

Kokyuan also offers a tranquil cozy space where one can enjoy the finest Japanese foods, confectionery, & tea. If you're interested in Japanese confectionery, or you just want to enjoy a cup of tea in the historic town of Sakai City (Osaka Prefecture), please feel free to contact us anytime.
