city'super offers a selection of Japanese items that leaves a serious food lover spoilt for choice. Its no wonder then, that Fenix Group's SFB decided it was high time to add to this product range by introducing authentic Japanese specialty snacks.

Azukiya catches the eye with its unique take on the preparation of the sweet potato. This snack stand serves up fried sweet potato sticks, using seasonal, sweet potatoes from Miyazaki Prefecture and fried in heart-healthy canola oil. The resulting treat is crisp on the outside, and soft on the inside. Served with a thin layer of syrup, these sweet potato treats are a must-have, particularly during the wintertime.

Aside from its sweet potato treats, Azukiya also serves up Japanese wheel cakes, which are made from Hokkaido fl our, Kyoto Uii Green Tea, Niigata Glutinous Rice and Tokachi red beansa mix that results in ambrosia for the most discriminating palate.

Meanwhile, Kasho Chaya puts a gourmet spin on Japanese dessert classics by going back to the basics. Its mouthwatering Daifuku mochi is made from all natural ingredients and with no added or artificial colouring, living the company's belief that only simplicity can bring out the treat's best natural tastes. The flavors of moxa and sesame are framed in a glutinous rice crust made of Gunma fl our and roll ed by hand; this Daifuku Mochi is manna from heaven indeed.

Another Kasho Chaya treat is the Mitarashi Dango. These soy syrup dumplings, made of rice and arrowroot flour and served on a skewer, have a place in Japan's history as a temple offering. Kasho Chaya's version uses a richer 'joshinko' rice flour. The sweet and chewy treats, which are grilled and coated with a gently sweet soya sauce, bring customers one step closer to gourmet Japan.

True to the Japanese tradition of balance, the treats served at Azukiya and Kasho Chaya are best enjoyed with a cup of Japanese green tea.
