Rose onions: Bangalore
The Deep red onion grown in india in the Kolar and Bangalore rural districts is called rose onion. Varieties
1 Arkabindu
This is the improved onion released by Indian Horticultural Research Institute. The onions are uniformly sized, having small shape ( 2.3 - 3.0 cm), weighing 30-50 gms, deep red in color, solid particles ( 15-16 %), more reserve capacity ( 45 months), less growing period ( 110-120 days), less branch tumors and more yield.
2 Agripound Rose
This is the variety developed by National Horticultural Research and Development Institute. These onions have deep red colored skins, with uniform size ( 3-4 cms), 15-16 % soluble solid particles and the productivity is 17.5 - 22 tonnes per Hectare.
3 Bangalore Rose
This is a local variety. Branch tumours and untimely flowering is more in these onions. These have low reserve capacity. There will be difference in color and sizes. The yield per hectare is 15-18 tonnes.
