This GTS Katunga 2009 is a blend of Grenache, Tannat and Shiraz and provides great drinking experience.
GTS consists of 54% Grenache, 24% Tannat and
22% Shiraz. The parcels were evening picked and
fermented in open concrete vats with daily hand
plunging.
The Grenache component which provides the
sweet front palate was matured in older oak
barriques to maintain fresh varietal characters of
rose petal, Raspberry and subtle spice. The
famously tannic Tannat which supplies the power
and weight in the middle, was seasoned in 2 year
old American hogsheads.
It imparts violets, fejoia and stewed quince on the bouquet, with the
palate delivering sage, anise and cigar box
flavours, whilst the Shiraz which was French oak
matured, adds chocolate, Satsuma plum and
pepper in addition to backbone and length of
flavor.
This unusual blend has produced a savoury
multi-faceted wine, which displays the distinctive
character of each grape.
Please double decant &
enjoy with ox-tail, paella, chateaubriand,
schweinshaxe, soft blue vein Cheese or a rich dish.
