The Pomelo is the ancestor of the grapefruit, and is a native tree fruit of Malaysia .
Pomelo has been identified as one of 10 Tropical Fruits in Malaysia for cultivation under programme to enhance the country's export of food products. Agriculture and Agro Based Ministry director-general Datuk Khamsiah Muhammad said Tambun had been earmarked for mass cultivation of pomelo. The programme introduced by the ministry is aimed at reducing trade balance especially on imported fruits, she told reporters after launching a good agriculture practice campaign at Tambun Valley Pomeloes orchard in Ipoh .(source : The Star .25/11/2005)The best pomelos are reputed to be from Tambun, about 10 minutes' drive east of Ipoh.
