Pope Pastures whole chickens are $2.49/pound

Pope Pastures whole chickens are $2.49/pound
or $20 per chicken (minimum of 5 pounds of pure chicken up to small turkey size!).
Regardless of the weight, we will never charge more than $20 per chicken!
We know what it is like to want to give your family the very best available, even on a limited budget.
Our hope is that our chicken will enable you to do that!  We want you to be a satisfied and happy repeat
customer and tell your friends and family about us!

We are happy to work with you any way that we can.  If you can get a group of people together that would like to buy a minimum of 15 chickens, we will meet your group within a 60 miles radius of our farm! Delivery charges apply.  We are just starting out and trying to establish ourselves, so we are flexible - especially if you can get an order larger than 20 together.

They are great for baking or cooking on the rotisserie.  The smaller ones are great for frying.  Our family of five can make a whole chicken go far...we love to boil them, use the dark meat for soup, use the white meat for chicken salad or a dinner casserole (you can freeze the breasts of a fresh chicken for a future recipe too), and freeze some of the delicious chicken stock for later.  At this age, they are all very tender so you can cook any of them, any way you choose

Our next processing date is the weekend of November 11th th .  They are available fresh for pick-up on the afternoon that we process them.  We do not have the refrigerator space to store fresh chickens, therefore any birds purchased after that date will be frozen.  The above images are serving and preparation suggestions.  We do not offer prepared poultry.

Are you interested in learning more about what pastured poultry is all about?

Joel Salatin of Polyface Farm in Swoope, Virgina is the author of several books, including You Can Farm and Salad Bar Beef. He pioneered the pastured poultry technique at Polyface Farm, and he has been successfully using this and several other innovative methods of animal husbandry for his family farm meat business.
Pastured poultry is a sustainable agriculture technique that calls for the raising of laying chickens and meat chickens (broilers) on pasture, as opposed to indoor confinement. The documented health benefits of pastured poultry, and grass-fed animals in general, in addition to superior texture and flavor are causing an increase in demand for all types of pastured poultry. The following is an article by Joel Salatin that explains the ins and outs of pastured poultry.
