Already for years we have been watching the quality development of the LUSTENAUER SENF. While the products of this Austrian company in Vorarlberg are very popular in western Austria, the market in eastern Austria is still very reserved, due to the strong dominance of a large Viennese firm. In 1994 we tried without much success to introduce the Lustenauer Senf specialities in our branches. After our high-quality wine vinegar had taken up so much space in our house, we offered to create a new LUSTENAUER SENF mustard, using our own vinegar and according to our own taste. After a few experiments we decided on a somewhat coarse-grained mustard, slightly hot with a light sweetness, yet harmonious, as we used our red wine vinegar – called Blue Portuguese Late Harvest 1994. The result was the Portuguese Mustard. From this concept, a fruitful co-operation between LUSTENAUER SENF and our WIENER ESSIG BRAUEREI was developed, which we wanted to make clearly evident with our joint market appearance of this product.
