3 year rotation for seed POTATOes-p1.html" target='_blank'>Potatoes: All Tucker Farms seed potatoes are on a three-year plot rotation.

POTATOES:
Eight varieties of white, red, yellow and blue potatoes are available: Adirondack Blue, All Blue, Adirondack Red, Hampton, Norland Dark Red Selection, Reba, Superior, and Yukon Gold. Orders can be shipped anywhere in the continental US in 5, 10 or 50 pound sacks, 100 pound burlap, 1-ton totes, or bulk. In recent years Tucker Farms has shipped to more than 28 states. Please note that shipments to Canada require phytosanitary inspection and accompanying paperwork. And, as always, seed and tablestock are available for on-farm pickup.

Adirondack Blue, a 2003 release from Uihlein-Cornell, was planted at Tucker Farms in 2002 as an advanced selection, and a remarkable yield resulted despite the drought. Adirondack Blue is an early-mid season variety of blue-skinned, blue-fleshed potato, and it is a wonderful complement to the venerable late-season All Blue variety. Tom Tucker suggested its name to Walter S. De Jong, its breeder, who gladly accepted it, saying he loved the idea of naming a potato variety after the Adirondack Mountains.

Adirondack Red is now our only red-fleshed variety. We have found it superior to the All Red in many ways. It is easier to grow, it sizes up earlier and reliably, and the tubers come off the vines nicely (much unlike the All Red). Best of all, it tastes great. Actually, the Adirondack Red must rank among the best tasting potatoes of all time. It tastes better than the German variety Rosara currently being marketed in the US by Green Giant under the tradename Klondike Rose and that is saying something. Until we tasted the Adirondack Red, we had considered the Rosara the best tasting potato ever.

3 year rotation for seed potatoes : All Tucker Farms seed potatoes are on a three-year plot rotation. This ensures the highest quality seed potatoes by reducing the harmful impacts of soil-borne organisms and insect pests. Note that NYS requires only a two year rotation for foundation and certified seed potatoes. The three-year rotation will ensure an exceptionally high degree of disease-free seed potatoes for the discriminating grower.
