Pueraria (Kudzu Root), The initial record of the plant as a medicine is in the ancient herbal text of Shen Nong (circa A. D. 100) in China, having been used in cooking, weaving, decorating and treating human ailments. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, kudzu root is used for: Thirst Headache Stiff neck with pain due to high blood pressure Allergies Migraine headaches Diarrhea Drunkenness Angina pectoris Active Ingredient: Isoflavones, such as daidzein, as well as isoflavone glycosides, such as daidzin, Puerarin-7-xyloside and puerarin. It was not until 1876 when Pueraria lobata was brought to Philadelphia from Japan, that plants of the genus Pueraria were introduced to the USA.
