Raisins are the dehydrated form of grapes, one of the oldest cultivated plants by humankind, originally from the south of Europe and Middle East ( Persia ). In ancient times they were a privileged food, only worthy of the Sultan. However, latter in the 19 th century their trade started because of their sweet taste and good nutrition values for long trips. Today there are more than 5,000 different varieties around the world.
