HISTORY

The Nero d'Avola is a red grape variety of the most famous Sicilian wine production. The name of Nero d'Avola was born as Calaulisi, Italianate erroneously Calabrese or according to others from a family owner of the vineyards of Avola. Cala is the dialect, Calea or Caleu synonyms or Rracina Sicilian grapes. Aulisi means "theater" that is, the city of Avola in dialect. Ultimately Grape of Avola, or Calea-Aulisi, and finally Calaulisi.

Taste and Flavours

Wines produced from grapes of Nero d'Avola are exported all over the world. They have a good acidity that gives them the possibility of long-term aging, if well preserved and if coming from some areas, especially those said before, even better if made from grapes grown in the traditional system called "alberello" brought to Sicily by the Greeks between the eighth and seventh centuries BC
They are typically wines with strong character, sometimes a bit 'edgy sometimes very elegant. The nose boasts a variety of scents: of spices and violets some, others of red berry fruit more or less mature, and some characteristic ethereal due to alcohol.
