Palm oil is a common cooking
ingredient in the tropical belt of Africa, Southeast Asia and parts of Brazil. In

Apart from being an essential
ingredient in cooking, palm oil is a major industrial material. Margarines,
cereals, biscuits, cosmetics, detergents and vegetable oil are products that
are increasingly linked to palm oil, among other raw materials. Other industrial
usage to which palm oil is applied is animal feed, pharmaceuticals, beauty
soaps, moisturizers and glycerin as well as paper.

Palm oil is naturally reddish in color
because of high beta-carotene content. Palm mesocarp has 41% oil content. It is
one of the few highly saturated vegetable fats. Palm oil is semi-solid at room temperature
and contains several saturated fats in the form of glyceryl laurate (0.1%
saturated) myristate (1% saturated), palmitate (44% saturated) stearate (5%
saturated), oleate (39% monounsaturated) linoleate (10%polyunsaturated and
alpha-linoleate (0.3% polyunsaturated . palm oil has zero cholesterol. It has a long shelf life and
it is odorless.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF PALM OIL:
Palm oil is very rich in Vitamin E and
Vitamin A and it is used for preventing Vitamin A deficiency, cancer, brain disease,
aging and malaria treatment. Others are high BP, high cholesterol and cyanide poisoning.
Palm oil is also used for weight loss and for increasing the body’s metabolism.
According to medical experts, the tocoterienol
found in palm oil may actually reverse the blockade of the carotid artery which
