The major sources of carrageenan are now the two tropical seaweeds Kappaphycusalverezii, commercially known as "Eucheuma Cottonii" and Eucheumadenticulatum, also known as "spinosum"' in popular literature.Natural stocks are abundantly spread in the areas of Philippine Waters becauseof its gifted temperature of 21 degrees centigrade or more and they thrive in brightlighted areas.
Uses of Seaweed/ Carrageenan:
It is used as a thickening, stabilizing or emulsifying agent in dairy products(chocolate milk, ice cream, etc.), reprocessed meats, binder in HAM making, dogfood, toothpaste, air freshener gels, and a variety of other food and non foodproducts (puddings, salad dressings, shoe polish, etc.) pharmaceuticalproducts, cosmetics and dental products, industrial products, biological andmedicinal research and agriculture.
