In its nutritional content shellfish is very similar to white fish, although certain varieties of shellfish, like crab and mussels can be very good sources of Omega3 as well.
More importantly, shellfish are a good source of iodine, copper, zinc and selenium. The high selenium content of shellfish is the reason behind the belief that they are a “good mood food”. A recent UK study by Benton and Cook showed a direct co-relation between increased daily selenium intake and improved mood together with decreased anxiety and depression.
