Harvested from January to March, snow crab is caught in crab pots in the icy cold waters of Central and Southwest Alaska. The average snow crab measures two feet from tip to tip and weighs from 1 1/2 to 3 pounds. Snow crab are caught and held live on board the fishing vessel in tanks of fresh seawater until they are delivered to the processing plant or vessel where the crab are eviscerated, cleaned, cooked, and frozen. Trident processes snow crab at its strategically located shore-side plants, as well as on board its floating factory processors and catcher-processing vessels. Noted for its sweet, delicate flavor, snow crab are in abundant supply throughout the year, and marketed in many forms: clusters, cocktail claws, whole legs, split legs, or lightly scored “Snap ‘N Eat” sections.
