A new japonica variety, round grain rice, Taro fragrant rice, developed by Taiwan Agricultural Research Centers.
A new japonica rice variety was developed and was formally registered in 2000. In memory of the late former breeding leader, Dr. Yichuan Kuo, the new variety was designted " Yichuan Aromatic Rice " as commerical name. The variety through an about 9 years breeding program, including pedigree selection, preliminary yield trial, advanced yield trial, and the regional yield trial, the new variety has demonstrated its stable productivity and excellent grain quality. Mainly because of its superior attributes, particularly the ordor of taro, milled rice and cooked rice qualities the variety released. The quality of the new variety has been ranked on the best level for its round and transparent appearance of milled rice, and excellent palatability of cooked rice.
The quality of rice (1) free 2 items of heavy metal on water & soil, and (2) free 157 items of multi-residul pesticide on rice by Taiwan Agricultural Chemicals and Toxic Substances Research Institute inspection.
