Tannic acid is obtained from nutgalls by extraction, filtration and refining. It is a yellow to light brown amorphous powder which is highly soluble in water; one gram dissolves in 0.35 mL of water.
In the United States, tannic acid is generally recognized as safe by the Food and Drug Administration.
Application:
- Beer clarification, aroma compound in Soft drinks and juices. A natural clarifying agent, colour Stabilizer and taste enhancer for the wine industry.
