Description:
Aquatic perennial flowers, rhizomes, stubby. A cluster of leaves, with elongated petioles, floating on the water, low-quality or nearly leathery, suborbicular or ovate-elliptic, 6-11 cm in diameter, entire, glabrous, dark green above, leaves with brown markings, below dark purple. Flowers solitary slender stalk top, and more white, floating in the water, 3 to 6 cm in diameter. Sepals 4, broadly lanceolate or narrow ovate. Aggregate fruit spherical, oval containing the majority of small black nuts. Yangtze River Basin flowering in mid-May to September, the fruit of 7 to 10 months. Flowers solitary, sepals persistent, usually white petals, stamens many, pistil stigma of having six to eight radial lobes. Berry spherical, as persistent sepals package. Seeds black.
Water lily like light, well ventilated, so water lily flower closes at night, the morning will open. In the shade of the pond shore, although able to blossom, but the growth is weak.
