We are daughter company of distillery KALKUNI from Daugavpils (Latvian town near Latvian/Russian border). MEKONA is responsible for export and relations with foreign customers.

The history of KALKUNI factory began in 1858, when Count Ignatjev, the Russian army general, had decided to create a distillery in Dvinsk (Daugavpils in modern Latvia). With a lot of effort and investment he made his factory the biggest producer of vodka in Kurland, which was the north western province of Russia at that time. The steadfast quality of his products which had earned the name of Dvinsk drinks was respected and honoured throughout all Russian Empire. The evidence thereof are the medals and rewards from exhibitions at different towns: Moscow (1882, 1887), Riga (1883, 1886), and St. Petersburg (1889).
The recipe of vodka HLEBNAJA was kept secret even when the factory was bought by well-known manufacturer Karjakin. It was under his management when recipes for herbal liqueurs MEDNIEKU and ZVEROBOJ were invented.
In the second half of 20th century KALKUNI factory had kept expanding its range of alcoholic production, but vodka HLEBNAJA which saved its primeval taste remains the main product for export. Only high quality local grain alcohol and water from unique spring is used for its production.
KALKUNI factory carefully keeps its age-old traditions of manufacturing and its unique recipes for the drinks produced.
