Sugar is an important food also commonly known as sucrose and has been originally produced in the Indian since ancient times. Global sugar production for the crop year 2011/12 is estimated in 168 million metric tons. Brazil is now the world's leading sugar producer and exporter, accounting for approximately 20 percent of global production and 44 percent of world exports, using for the cultivation of sugarcane averaged 9 million hectares with all necessaryagroecological zoning, which represents around 1 percent of Brazil's land.
During the most recent harvest, national sugar output reached 40 million tons. Approximately two-thirds of the sugar produced in Brazil is destined for foreign markets. More than 100 countries around the world rely on sugar from Brazil.
One of the most common sugar type produced in Brazil is the refined, what represents around 30 percent of the Brazilian sugar exports. This is the most highly refined form of sugar and has a sparkling white color. It is the most often type sold direct to consumers in the form of sugar cubes, bags of sugar, and in sugar sachets. It´s also typically exported in sacks and used in the manufacture of food products such as cocoa powder, soda or retail products, and drugs.
Technically, in Brazilian SGS rating as Reference Base Units (RBU), the production process to refined sugar results in the rating color/ quality ICUMSA 45, according the ICUMSA (International Commission for Uniform Methods of Sugar Analysis) classification. The ICUMSA rating system could vary in some countries, but the Brazilian rating is the most widely used system and could vary from 45 to 4600, what represents highly refined granulated sugar and very raw sugar, respectively.
