Pear is called the father of fruit by the ancients. It is sweet, juicy,
fragrant, and rich in sugar, various vitamins and minerals such
as calcium, iron, and phosphorus. Xi County of Shanxi Province is one
of the biggest centers of origin of pear in China, with a cultivation
history of at least 3000 years. "Yuluxiang" Pear is
one of the most representative varieties in Xi County”.
" Yuluxiang" Pear is a competitive pear
product gained through hybridization of Xinjiang Korla Pear and Hebei
Xuehua Pear. It has beautiful shape, moderate sweetness, and
delicate sarcocarp. Its surface is red, smooth and fine with waxiness
and water-retaining property; the sunny side shows longitudinal
stripes of red or demitint. The pericarp is yellow-green when it is
harvested, and yellow and brighter after storage. With its thin skin
and small core, the edible rate is as high as 90%; the crispy and
very juicy water white sarcocarp tastes excellent without
residue. It won the honorary title of “Chinese Superb Pear” at the Annual Meeting
of Century-Old Brand and Chinese Brand Culture Management on July
9, 2014.
