Sunflower oil in Russia is the most popular of all vegetable oils. It is made from sunflower seeds.
Sunflower oil is widely used in folk medicine in the treatment of lung diseases, thrombophlebitis, toothache, chronic diseases of the stomach, intestines and liver.
Types and varieties
Unrefined sunflower oil is darker in color, with a strong specific smell. During storage, a precipitate forms in it.
Refined sunflower oil is transparent, golden or light yellow in color, with a faint smell of seeds. There is no sediment in it. Refined oil is more suitable for frying: it "shoots" less.
How to cook
It is used as a component in the production of mayonnaise, as well as in the manufacture of canned vegetables and fish, and at home – for dressing salads and soups and, of course, frying products.
History
In 1829, a peasant of the Alekseevskaya Sloboda (the current city of Alekseevka, Belgorod region) Dmitry Bokarev gathered a crop of seeds in his garden and "processed" these seeds with a wooden mallet so that oil suddenly turned out of them. Four years later, the first oil mill was built in Alekseevka, and a few years later, Russian oil producers already boasted that they could pour their oil into the Black and Baltic Seas.
