Antioxidants, long used as preservatives for foods and beverages, have been also extensively studied for their beneficial effects on human health. Research has shown that consumption of foods rich in antioxidants may lead to a reduction of cell damage by binding or destroying free radials. Antioxidants are known to have anti-carcinogenic and anti-inflammatory properties, contribute to promote cardiovascular health, and are known to help prevent arteriosclerosis and a variety of other diseases.
