Batavia Arrack is comprised of a very specific range of sugar cane pot-still distillates originating from Indonesia
The Indonesian spirit:
Batavia Arrack is comprised of a very specific range of pot-still distillates originating from the East Indies, produced on the Island of Java, Indonesia. The fermentation process includes the addition of rice; it is this, which sets it apart from Rum, although the raw material is still sugar cane.
Distillation of these products is carried out using very traditional pot-stills, in ancient Chinese distillers' tradition. Traditionally Batavia Arrack is used in the Beverage industries of those countries previously trading with the East Indies, either as a small component in a blend or as the mayor element.
These days we find Batavia Arrack being used mainly as a component in sophisticated spirit blends, however, most types are also widely used as flavour component in several of the other industry segments.
