Brief description

Black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) – is referred to the kind of decapod crustaceans of the suborder prawns (Dendrobranchiata). Tiger shrimps have got their name for the black stripes on the shell, which remain on the meat after cleaning. Commercial wild catches occur in warm waters of the Pacific Ocean. Black tiger shrimps are also widely cultivated as well as in Brazil.  Black tiger prawns live at a depth of 16-22 meters, normal size varies from 115 -155 mm. Tiger shrimp comes to the market frozen, peeled or shell-on, cooked and raw. Tiger shrimps’ aquaculture harvest as well as wild commercial catch account for approximately 800-900 thousand tons per year.
