1.Plastics industry
Cetearyl alcohol can be used as an additive for plastics to improve their flowability and processing properties.

Due to its waxy properties, cetearyl alcohol is sometimes used in the preparation of candles.

In topical formulations, cetearyl alcohol increases the viscosity of w/o and o/w emulsions. It stabilizes the emulsion and has a co-emulsifying effect, thus reducing the amount of surfactant required to form a stable emulsion.
Hexadecyl alcohol is used in pharmaceuticals to reduce the release of water-soluble drugs.

In cosmetics and personal care products, cetearyl alcohol can be used to make surfactants, such as acetone, natural fatty alcohols and ethylene oxide adducts.
