Chlorella, also known as seaweed, is a single celled algae commonly found in freshwater. The whole organism is processed for different medicinal purposes and is quite rich in chlorophyll. Chlorella powder is quite rich in nutrients like minerals, proteins, vitamins, lipids, nucleic acids, carbohydrates and fibers. Some evidence suggest that use of chlorella vulgaris might increase the serum concentration of vitamin B12 but this vitamin B12 is of little value. The results of studies conducted on animals have shown that certain constituents of chlorella might acts as antibacterial, antiviral, antitumor and antifungal agents. Chlorella has also shown to possess promising immune stimulating potential.
