Derived from bovine milk casein through hydrolysis by proteolytic enzyme, Casein Phospho peptide (CPP) is a natural bioactive peptide abounding with phosphoserine. Its molecular weight is 2000-4000. With the characteristic of combining with divalent cations like calcium and iron in intestine to enhance absorption of mineral substances, CPP is regarded as the carrier of minerals.
Mechanism
In the alkalescent environment of Ph 7-8 in lower part of small intestine, Ca2+ and Fe2+ easily settle to be insoluble salt to obstruct pervasion of calcium and iron. This results in a descent of calcium absorption in ordinary diet.
Owing to the affinity to divalent metal, CPP will form dissoluble complex compound in the alkalescent environment of small intestine with calcium. The moderate interchangeable combination can prevent increase of calcium concentration from forming calcium phosphate precipitation and promote the absorption of calcium inside intestine. At the same time, with the high negative charge, CPP molecules gain a property to resist the further hydrolization of digestive enzyme inside intestine, which become a guarantee for them to play a role in intestinal tract.
Biological functions
1. To promote skeleton and dental growth of children;
2. To prevent and improve osteoporosis;
3. To promote recovery of patient with bone fracture;
4. To prevent and improve iron-deficiency anemia
